Although Gabapentin brings relief for many people suffering from traumatic Pain, the dangers of the drug are becoming more clear than ever. Due to the euphoric effects of Gabapentin, many people abuse the drug despite the risks. It is considered an anticonvulsant, and is most commonly used to treat epilepsy, restless leg syndrome, hot flashes, and neuropathic pain. It is often used as a less addictive alternative to Opioids; however, Gabapentin addiction and abuse still occur in many patients. |
DANGERS OF GABAPENTIN
The greatest danger of Gabapentin is a potentially fatal overdose. Gabapentin depresses a person’s respiration and decreases their blood pressure. This can lead to seizures, comas or cardiac arrest (especially when ingesting, snorting, or injecting crushed tablets). Gabapentin is most dangerous and addictive when taken via methods that increase the drug’s euphoric effects, such as crushing pills and then snorting or injecting the powder or combining the pills with alcohol or other drugs.
